I have some girlfriends coming in to visit at the end of this month for a Girls’ Weekend.  I am really looking forward to it.  For something special, we will be having a wine tasting one night and Rombauer is the Chardonnay on the menu.  It’s a little pricey but it’s really nice – prices online range from the mid 20’s to the mid $30’s.

I particularly like the creaminess and the light sweetness this Chardonnay offers.

Rombauer Vineyards’ 2007 Carneros Chardonnay is smooth, rich, and elegant, true to the Rombauer style. Apple, peach, and tropical fruit flavors weave together in a nice range of flavors that linger on the palate ending with a long, crisp, fruity aftertaste. The oak tones from both barrel fermentation and aging are nicely melded into the flavor and finish of the wine.

93 PTS WILFRED WONG. The finest Rombauer Chardonnay to date, aside for the enticing butter and creme soda notes in the wine, the finely balanced ‘07 adds fine minerality and crispness into the finish.

Rombauer Vineyards’ Carneros Chardonnay is a rich, 100% malolactic fermentation Chardonnay with layers of tropical fruit, peaches, and pears. The fruit opens into creamy textures of apples and pears that glide across the palate. Hints of citrus and light oak tones highlight the wine’s lingering finish.

Winemaker’s Comments:
We have a particular style that we’ve developed with that wine. I wouldn’t call it buttery per se, but it is rich. Maybe some people might think it has buttery descriptors. We say it’s fruit forward and that the oak is very integrated into the wine. Probably texturally it seems buttery; it’s thick.” G. Graham

ENJOY!
