·         Yes, this is from a previous posting, but I am doing a little redecorating around the blog…

This week’s pick, a Louis Latour wine (not to be confused with Louis L’Amour, author of western-themed novels), is rated an 8.   This wine was purchased at Costco.

Louis Latour  - Grand Ardeche Chardonnay – 2004

Notes:  Nice and fruity– and it’s French – even better.  Who knew the area where it’s grown is also noted for its nougat? (What exactly is nougat?)

The information noted below was obtained from:http://www.louislatour.com/pages/index.php?id_page=41&id_vin=61

Tasting notes: The result is a full-bodied wine that is smooth with notes reminiscent of exotic fruits and vanilla spice imparted by the oak.

Country: FRANCE
Grape Varietal: CHARDONNAY

·         Louis Latour is located in Burgundy, France.

Region:  Côteaux de l’ArdècheConsistency of climate and abundant sunshine in the Ardèche perfectly ripen these bunches of grapes, whilst the drying Mistral wind eliminates any risk of rot. The Ardèche region is situated to the west of the Rhone valley. The fertility of the soils was discovered by the Romans who have left abundant proof of having thrived in this attractive part of France. The Ardèche is a barren, rugged, region that is appreciated for its dramatic beauty and has a warm climate with a long hot growing season. These factors combined with the chalk-clay soils make it ideal for the production of high quality Chardonnay. Apart from the excellent wines of the region, the local town of Montélimar has become famous for its local delicacy, nougat.

Soil : Clay and chalk
Exposure: southerly

Analysis :  Alcohol: 13%
