Wouldn’t you rather have a nice glass of Cabernet today instead of another annoying April Fool’s joke? Here you go…
We were at our friends’ house the other night and they served a delicious Cab so I just have to share: it’s Catena Alta!
- It’s well worth the price. It can be purchased at Costco for around $38.00 a bottle – for the 2004 vintage.
- I give it a 10!!!
P.S. — Thanks to our friends for introducing us to Catena Alta!
Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina, South America
Price: $53.99
winemaker’s notes:
In an effort to produce a super premium wine, the winemaking team of Catena began in depth investigations into the yields within each of their specially selected, high altitude vineyards, identifying those lots which produce the best fruit. These vines undergo a careful thinning process, leaving only a select few clusters, resulting in remarkably complex, aromatic and flavorful fruit.
Expanding on the vineyard lots previously used in this wine, the 2003 vintage is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of red berryfruit accompanied by hints of tobacco lead into intense flavors of black cherry, plum and spice which come together with a touch of pepper on the smooth lingering finish.

Tasting Notes for Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
Intense aromas of ripe dark fruit meld with hints of tobacco, cedar and fresh mint. The palate is full and rich with concentrated cassis and blackcurrent flavors.
Producer Information:
Nicolas Catena was the third generation of his family to make wine in Mendoza but the first to see the potential in planting higher and higher vineyards in search of cool climate sites ideal for the production of fine wine. Today, over a decade on from the first Catena Malbec in 1994, he works with his daughter Laura (who improbably juggles her work as an ER surgeon in San Francisco with the family business) in their relentless pursuit of the finest possible quality wines from their unique vineyard sites.
