HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I must have lost my mind about a month ago when I decided to volunteer at Aggie’s school to head the decorating committee.  First of all, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into since this is for an annual event – which, of course, I have never attended.  Secondly, after I volunteered to head up the sub-committee, I found out I was the only committee member!  No kidding.  Luckily, another person agreed to help me out and since then, I found 3 other people to help with the set up – which was tonight…and tomorrow morning before the event starts at 10:00 am.  Who knew I would need to decorate the cafeteria for the cake walk, an outdoor photo area (in front of a metal shed and fence – make that look nice, OK?), a large open area where games will be placed, and an entrance/admissions area.  One person on the committee?  I think not!  I must say though, I have met some very nice people during my participation on the committee  and I’ve had to push my creativity a bit.  Another mom told me I should go to the Dollar Store and get some of those cute little craft pumpkins and some sparkly pears, apples, and pomegranates – so that’s what I did – I mean, why not add a little sparkle to the usual scarecrows and bales of hay?  I also got some shiny, autumn ribbons and some pine cones.  (It’s just not fall without pinecones).  So, what was I to do with all of these goodies?  I attached them to branches I picked up at the local park, of course!  (Isn’t that what you were thinking?).  I also added some nice silk flowers and leaves.  Anyway…those turned out well - with the help of one of my committee members.  We made about 10 of them, but honestly, how many decorated branches does the world need anyway?  Well, today I hit the jackpot!  I was in the back yard snipping colorful fall foliage to use for decorating filler when I saw a large palm branch which had fallen from a palm tree.  Who knew it would be reincarnated as a something that looks like a large stalk of dried corn when stood upright – with shiny fall tinsel and a pretty bow!  I had to laugh at myself…but we’re using it tomorrow -  right at the front gate!  I really do crack myself up.

Tonight I watched “30 Rock” with Dear.  It’s one of his favorite TV shows – right behind Monday Night Football, NFL Network HD, and even “old” football…and probably equal to “The Office” and “My Name is Earl.”  I don’t really get the last two shows, although I can see why a lot of people think they are funny.  ANYWAY, tonight Jack Donaghy (back to 30 Rock…) made a comment that made me laugh out loud.  It won’t be funny here because it is not in context.  However, if you watched it tonight, maybe you will laugh out loud again.  No matter what, it is sage advice.  Here is what Jack had to say to Liz Lemon (Tina Fey):  “Never go with a hippie to a second location.”  …Just keep that in mind.  It’s my new motto.  (It’s just cracks me up).

“30 Rock” – -In case you haven’t checked it out yet – it is  ”billed by Entertainment Weekly as “…clever but not too cool, daffy but not slapstick, NBC’s ‘30 Rock’…the funniest sitcom on TV” — is told through the comedic voice of Tina Fey (Liz Lemon) and features Alec Baldwin (Jack Donaghy) as a top network executive and Tracy Morgan (Tracy Jordan) as the unpredictable star of Lemon’s hit variety show, “TGS with Tracy Jordan.” Lemon had her hands full this past season, juggling corporate interference from Donaghy and off-the-wall star antics from Jordan, all while attempting to salvage her own personal life.”

This was a headline I read on a fashion website the other day.  All I could do was laugh out loud and think, “This is such good news for my bridesmaids!”  Of course, I got married 17 years ago and, yes, my bridesmaids wore a floral chintz tea-length dress (and don’t forget the puffy sleeves).  At the time, I thought it was so pretty.  I went with the chintz because I couldn’t pick a single solid color as I liked lots of colors (that’s a scary thought for a wedding).  As with all bridesmaids dresses, the bride always says, “Isn’t it great?  You’ll be able to  wear it again!”  I, too, made that comment.  My poor bridesmaids.  I honestly don’t think that any one of them ever wore that dress again – and I certainly can’t blame them.  I wonder how many of them still have those dresses tucked deep within their closets and how many have been smart enough to toss or donate them?  I know in my case with the many bridesmaid dresses I purchased through the years, I got rid of them – one by one (sometimes three at a time), mostly through garage sales.  I saved one (which was actually a dressy jacket and pants) for many years in hopes of wearing it again but the right opportunity never presented itself.  As for the rest, they served their purpose and were later put to rest.

Here are the stats as of today:

Total Views: 1,000

I’ve had 57 posts so far.  (You do the math).

Now, on average, that’s about 20 hits a day.   I just think that’s pretty cool.   I have about 10 – 12 friends/family members who read my blog somewhat regularly.  So 1000 views suggests that a few other people out there in blogland are checking it out.  I just hope that everyone who has read my blog has enjoyed it and taken something from it – whether it’s a chuckle, an insight, a new recipe or a new wine to try, or you’ve learned a little something about Texas or Boca Raton - that’s what I’m here for.  As my friend Michael says, “I’m a giver.  That’s what I do.”

I have considered moving to another blog host in order to add ads to my blog…then maybe I’d get a nickel or two each day.  I haven’t done it yet though because I’m not sure it would really be worth it.

Now, if only I had a dollar for every time…
