My favorite flowers are Gerber daisies, roses, and daffodils.  I like my coffee a bit strong with one Splenda and a little cream.  I don’t like hailstorms.  I usually line baking sheets with foil before heating frozen goodies like chicken tenders or taquitos so I don’t have to wash the pan later.  My favorite material belonging is my laptop and the internet – and the ability to get information at my fingertips in a snap.  I cherish my family photos (especially the ones before digital cameras which have no copies).  I love my family, my friends, and chocolate (not always in that order).  I’d like to travel to Europe.  I don’t care to ever snow ski again.  I wish I could swim as well as an Olympic medalist.  I’d like to be less self-critical – but what’s the fun in that? I love pretty paper and fabric.  I don’t like watching reruns of “old football” games.  I enjoy a good salad.  I’d never do well on “Survivor” because I need to brush my teeth and practice good hygiene several times a day.  I like the sound of ocean waves and the smell of an outdoor fire in the fall.

 THE REAL SCOOP

·         I’m Pop. I’ve been married for 17 years to Dear.   Pop is a nickname my husband bestowed on me after I told him that some high school friends used to call me “Popular” since I had lots of friends and was involved in a lot of school activities.  It was good for a laugh… but it stuck

·         Kids:  Cute boy (C.B. or “Cubs”) – age 12; Adorable girl (A.G. or “Aggie”) – age 8.  Cubs is my personal technical support consultant.  He’s already taught me how to download/upload photos to my blog and work with widgets (now I just have to figure out a few more things…).

·         Dog:  3-year-old LARGE black lab who sheds constantly.  He also has issues with anxiety and is currently obsessed with lizards which are truly plentiful here in Boca.  Update:  As of March 2008, we added a little pup to our family by the name of Lucy.  Check out the blog for more about her.

·         Our family moved to Boca Raton, Florida from north Texas in July 2007.  I’m a Texas girl through and through, although I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  I only lived there for 3 days so that doesn’t count.

·         Why did we move?  Dear took a job he said he simply could not pass up.  So, being the supportive and understanding wife I try to be (well, sometimes…), I agreed to the whole arrangement despite my major concerns about hurricanes…and lizards / iguanas…and snakes…and all the other reptiles in Florida.

·         Who knew I would find myself initially unemployed in Florida?  It’s a long story but it has something to do with Florida not accepting my school psychology licensure from Texas. I worked for the last 8 years in Texas public schools as a “licensed specialist in school psychology.”  Apparently Florida has issues with Texas and I was caught in the middle.

·         For fun, my husband and I have hosted several wine-tasting parties for our friends over the last few years.  We are not fans of stuffy wine parties, or for that matter, stuffy wine connoisseurs.  While I’m not working, I’ll probably be sampling a little more wine in preparation for the next party!

I fell on your website through a photo of a yacht. I liked it. Well done.

My site is more of a “male” version but similiar ramblings.

I started it 18months ago and used to get 20 hits a day, now i get from 500 to 1000. It is amazing what a blog will do.

    Hi!

Not sure how I found you… you know how it is, you click a link and then another and you land somewhere you never expected to. Anyhow, I’m always happy to find another Florida blogger to add to my collection. I’m a transplant to SW FL, from Long Island. Nice to meet ya!

    Hi Melanie,
I hope I’m not too late to give some advice! The assembly of the desk was a snap. I did it by myself but it was difficult to move the pieces at times because they are very heavy. Instead of following the assembly instructions to put the tabletop on the floor (upside down), I placed it right-side-up on top of the two sides and screwed in the screws from below – with no problem. Hope this helps (I KNEW I wouldn’t be able to turn the whole desk over by myself so I had to adlib a bit).
    Have a great day.

Hi! I’m just about to pick up my project desk from Pier 1 (also snagged the great price!) but I was wondering how difficult the assembly was for you? Were there any tools necessary? Were you able to carry it by yourself? Any other tips?

    Thank you so much!
